Looking to Improve Your Car’s Appearance?

Auto Repair Service Tips on What Not to Do

Shearing your springs

There are some people that want to lower their car for various reasons which could include better looks or improved handling, which is why there are aftermarket parts suppliers who can outfit your ride with springs which are specifically designed for your car. One of the more common auto repair service tips and tricks is simply to cut a few of the coils off of your stock springs. Unfortunately, with today’s modern springs doing this could negatively impact your safety and performance. So it is simply not worth the risk.

Premium Fuel

Even though it is tempting to use the 2 – 3 octane ratings at your nearest fuel station, as they claim to increase your engine’s performance, this is not how octane works. The octane number you see listed is just an indication of how well the gasoline can resist something known as the knock, this basically means when the gas ignites inside a cylinder after it has been compressed, but before the spark plug actually fires.

The higher the figure, the more resistant it is to knock, which means they are safer to use in high compression engines or ones which have turbo or superchargers. Unless your vehicle has been specifically tuned to take advantage of this, using premium fuel is something you can steer clear of, as it will not give your engine any extra boost.

Removing the catalytic converter

There was a time that the emissions systems on vehicles where quite primitive, almost to the point where they actually did more harm than good, taking away power in order to clean up the tailpipe. Fortunately, today’s vehicles are a completely different story, however, this has not made old-school entry repair tips and tricks go away. You may hear what the advantages are when you remove your vehicles catalytic converter, however, this is not true, all it will accomplish is your next emissions inspection will fail.
